2004 USA Cross Country Championships
World Cross Country Team Trials

World Junior Team Selection:
Junior athletes must be USA citizens or eligible to represent the USA in international competition, current USATF members, and born between January 1, 1985, and February 7, 1990. In other words, junior athletes may not turn 20 during 2004. There are no performance standards to participate. For information on joining or forming a club in your area contact your local association or the USATF office at 317-261-0500.
Junior Championship Races:
- Junior Women's 6K, Junior Men's 8K
- Team Scoring will be announced every 1K
Eligibility:
- Athletes must be US Citizens
- Athletes must be current USATF members
- Athletes must be born between January 1, 1985, and February 7, 1990
Team Scoring:
Along with the individual competition in the Junior and
Elite Open races, team scoring will take place. A minimum of four runners and a
maximum of six runners will constitute a team. The combined points of each
team’s first four finishers will determine a team’s score. Cross country
displacement scoring will be utilized. The team with the lowest score will
be the winning team. Teams may only declare 6 athletes to be on their roster.
The first six finishers in each of the following events who meet the age criteria will select themselves to represent the United States in that event at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships:
Junior Women's 6k
Junior Men's 8k
World Champs Qualifying:
Those planning to qualify for and attend the World Championships should be available for travel between March 15-23. All athletes should come to the championships with a USA passport valid through April 2004. Juniors must bring a copy of their birth certificate. Should you qualify for a team, you will be asked before you leave the championships to complete travel arrangements with USATF's travel agency and complete all required USA National Team Forms. Note: There are
additional IAAF qualifying standards to compete on the US National Team.
