INVADERS' HOLT EIGHTH AT NISHIDA CUP
MARCH 20, 2000
(INDIANAPOLIS)-- Tyra Holt (Bloomington, Ind.) of the Indiana
Invaders, finished eighth at the Nishida Cup held March 20 at Chukyo
University in Toyota City, Nagoya, Japan with a vault of 3.62 meters.
The Men and Women's Invitational AKA Nishida Cup hosted athletes from
Japan, Korea, China, the United States, and Taiwan. The hard-fought
competition was won by Gashuei of China at 4.12 meters with Ono of
Japan in second place based on misses at 4.12 meters.
Holt, the former American Recordholder while at Stanford (1995), is
making a comeback of sorts having been out of serious training and
competition for a couple of years. She is enrolled in Law School at
Indiana University and training with Coach Dan Burton and Marshal Goss
as a member of the Indiana Invaders.
" This was a great first international experience and as such highly
motivating," said Holt. She added, " I really look forward to a return
to heavy training as I'm determined to return to competition at the
upper
levels of vault competition. The Olympic Trials are just a few months
away and I expect to improve on my Indoor Nationals showing."
