INDIANA INVADERS PLACE STRONG OPENING MARKS AT PURDUE OPEN, PACE

(INDIANAPOLIS)-- In their outdoor season opener at the Purdue Open,
the Indiana Invaders had several first place finishes including a
stadium
record in the men's javelin. Kirt Thompson's throw of 71.56m bested
the
71.00m heave by Stan Johanning of the Univesity of Michigan in 1991.
Invader Brendon Falconer finished second in the event at 54.74m.

Invader Angie Joy (Bloomington, Ind.) captured top honors in the
women's
discus throw with a toss of 50.27m and Jamie Strieter was second in the
women's javelin throw with a toss of 46.42m. Matt Sparks (Bloomington,
Ind.) was first in the men's 5,000m run with a time of 15.07.10.
The Indiana Invaders, led by Collette Liss (Valparaiso, Ind.) with a
first place finish, placed five women in the top ten finishers at the
LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle 8k in Chicago on Sunday.
Liss, fresh off her 20th place finish at the IAAF World Cross Country
Championships, finished in 25:26 ahead of Amy Skieresz (Tucson,
Az.) in 25:53 and Kathy Butler (Madison, Wis.) at 26:00.
Other Invaders in the top ten were Stephanie Dueringer in sixth place
(27:55), Lorilynn Hoffman (Bloomington, Ind.) seventh in 27:59, Judy
Porter of (Greenfield, Ind.) eighth in 28:09 and Kelly French ninth in
28:33.
Todd Moroney, the lone Invaders' member competing in the men's 8k race,
finished twelth in 24.24.
"This weekend was a solid outing for many of our athletes as they get
ready to pursue Olympic Trials qualifying marks beginning with the Sea
Ray Relays where several athletes are targeting qualifying efforts."

distance runners this was the first opportunity to showcase our
talent on the roads in the midwest and with 4 out of 5 running personal
best efforts in dominating the Shamrock, we like our chances to race
well
on the track in two weeks."
With the U.S. OIympic Track & Field Trials just four months away, the
Invaders will concentrate its training and competition schedules on the
outdoor season beginning with the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn
(April 12-15).
