INVADERS PERFORM STRONG AT BILLY HAYES INVITATIONAL;
LISS POSTS OLYMPIC TRIALS STANDARD AMONG ELITE FIELD

(INDIANAPOLIS)-- The Indiana Invaders had three first place finishes
and a strong club effort at the Billy Hayes Invitational held Saturday,
May 13 at Indiana University.

Jamie Strieter (47.59 meters) and Angie Joy (48.56 meters) won the
javelin throw and discuss throw respectively and Frankie Young (7.13
meters) won the long jump.
Runner-up performances were achieved by Tyra Holt in the pole vault
(3.63 meters), Le'Gretta Smith in the 400 meter hurdles (58.33), Hope
Sanders in the 800 meters (2:06.52), Wilford Gareth in the 1500 meters
(3:46.50), Brendon Falconer in the long jump (7.04 meters), and Kirt
Thompson in the javelin throw (67.10).
Lorilynn Hoffman (1,500 meters), Todd Moroney (1,500 meters) and Steve
Parker (high jump) finished third in their respective events and
Falconer also was fourth in the 110 hurdles.
Liss, competing in the 5000 meters race at the Oregon Twilight at
Hayward Field in Eugene, Or., finished 10th in 15:50.03, a qualifying
mark for the U.S. Olympic Trials. She had previously qualified in the
1500 meters.
Of Liss' performance, Invaders Head Coach Chris Buhler said, " We
accomplished the most important task, qualifying for the trials at a
second distance. Now we'll get ready to race effectively in
Sacramento".
