INVADERS' HURDLERS STORMED THE STAGE AT SMITH BARNEY

January 28, 2001

(INDIANAPOLIS)-- The Indiana Invaders' hurdlers stood out in the spotlight of the Smith Barney Invitational as Le'gretta Smith won the 60 meter hurdles as did teammate Daren Youngstrom, a graduate of Taylor University. Invaders' decathlete Brendon Falconer took third and 400 meter hurdler John McAfee placed fourth in the 60 meter hurdles event.

Smiths' time of 8.32 was just .02 seconds from qualifying for USA Indoor Nationals and Youngstrom's time of 7.91 was even closer at .01 seconds. Falconer's 7.99 second personal best was also just a heartbeat (0.09 sec.) away from qualifying.

Butler University graduate, Tara Loper, won the weight throw with a three PR series. The winning throw measuring 18.51 meters and setting a new Smith Barney Meet record while narrowly missing a USATF qualifier.

Warren Central HS graduate, Hope Sanders, turned in a modest 2:09.74 victory at 800 meters.

Invaders' Steven Parker, an Indianapolis native and a graduate of Indiana State, second place in the high jump came within 5 centimeters of qualifying for US Nationals with a 2.15 meter effort.
