INVADERS SET TO IMPACT INDOOR NATIONALS
February 9, 2001
(INDIANAPOLIS, IND.) - The Indiana Invaders are gearing up for
USATF Indoor National Championships March 2-3, 2001 in Atlanta, Ga.
with a group of eight athletes already qualified. The Invaders look to
make
their presence felt in the multi-event competition with Phil McMullen,
Brendon Falconer, and Kamau Sullivan (Indianapolis, Pike H.S.)
competing in the Heptathlon.
In addition to McMullen, Falconer, and Sullivan the Invaders'
current qualifiers include Kyle Baker (3000), Lamont Dagen
(Triple Jump), Carri Long (High Jump), Hope Sanders (800),
and Le'gretta Smith (60 hurdles).
This upcoming weekend the Invaders will have several athletes
looking to post qualifying marks at the Cannon IV Classic,
hosted by Butler University, at the National Insitute for
Fitness and Sports (NIFS).
Among those aiming to qualify will be Collette Liss (Valparaiso, Ind.)
in the 3000 and Priscilla Hein in the Mile, both running in
their first indoor meet of the season. "Liss and Hein have had their
training focused to this point primarily on the World Cross Country
Trials to be contested in Vancouver, Washington on February 18," said
Head Coach Chris Buhler. Added Buhler, "They will be ready to go in
Atlanta when it is time."
Invaders' Olympian DeDee Nathan (Fort Wayne, Ind.) is also competing
in her first competition since the 2000 Olympic Games. Nathan won the
U.S. Olympic Trials in the Hepthalon last July. Nathan will be competing
in the shot put and 60 hurdles.
The Invaders' list of athletes seeking likely qualifying marks
includes Tara Loper (Weight Throw), John McAfee (60 hurdles),
Steven Parker (High Jump), and the men's 4x400 relay.
Fans will have a chance to see the Invaders' newest club member
competing in the club colors, Purdue's Carri Long (Brazil, Ind.), in
the
high jump.
