INDIANA INVADERS PLACE THREE IN TOP TEN AT WORLD CROSS COUNTRY TRIALS
February 19, 2001
(VANCOUVER, WA) - The Indiana Invaders put in an excellent
showing at the World Cross Country Trials in Vancouver,
Washington. Collette Liss (Valparaiso, Ind.) placed 5th, Kyle
Baker (Anderson, Ind.) placed 7th, and Priscilla Hein finished
in 10th place over the 4K course. The first 6 finishers earn the
right to represent the United States at the World Cross Country
Championship in Dublin, Ireland on March 24-25.
Collette Liss will represent the United States at the World
Championships for the second consecutive year. Liss finished
20th in the 2000 World Cross Country Championship. " I'm very
excited about the prospects for this year's team as my teammates
are a very strong group and we should be looking at a much
improved team score over last year", said Collette Liss.
Liss added, "I can now look forward to a quality race at USATF
Indoor Nationals as part of my final preparation for World Cross
Championships".
"Liss, Baker, and Hein went at it from the gun with the Invaders
mentality", said Coach Chris Buhler. Added Buhler, "One year
ago we had one athlete make the World Cross Country Team, this
year we have an athlete returning and two as alternates with a
top ten finish. All three of these athletes have put themselves
in a position to contend for spots on future USA Teams and we
look forward to adding to this group in the coming months and
years. It is not unrealistic for us to begin thinking about
contending for a team title in the near future".
The Invaders' Liss, Hein, and Baker will be competing on the
track in two weeks at the USATF National Indoor Track & Field
Championships on March 2-3 in Atlanta, GA.
