(Atlanta, GA) - The Invaders' are positioned after day one of the
USA Track & Field Indoor Nationals to place 3 athletes in the top
five of the heptathlon. "Invaders' Brendon Falconer realistically
has a solid shot at taking over the lead and following through on
day two to become the Invaders' first national champion of 2001,"
said head coach Chris Buhler.
Brendon Falconer finished day one in second with 3316 points,
Phil McMullen in fourth with 3132 points, and Kamau Sullivan
(Pike H.S., IN) in fifth with 3070 points. McMullen improved his
best in the shot put with a nearly foot and a half PR. Sullivan
jumped 1.96m in the high jump to move from 6th to 5th in the final event of day one.
"It's been a good first day for the multi-event guys and they have
put themselves in a great position for tomorrow's conclusion," said
the newest member of Invaders' coaching staff, Aron McGuire.
Added McGuire, "We have several opportunities to shine on day
two in the men's heptathlon and contend for a couple spots on the
medal stand. Brendon, Phil, and Kamau each have at least one
event where they can make a move in the final day and they look
forward to the contest."
The multi-event trio will be joined on the final day of the USATF
Indoor National Championships by teammates Lamont Dagen
(triple jump), Le'gretta Smith (60 hurdles), Steven Parker (high jump),
