INVADERS' COLLETTE LISS AT WORLD INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
March 9, 2001
(INDIANAPOLIS, IND.) - Invaders' Collette Liss (Valparaiso, Ind.) will
represent the United States at the 8th IAAF World Indoor Track & Field
Championships on March 10-11, 2001 in Lisbon, Portugual. Liss
captured her second national championship title with her victory in the
Mile at the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championships on March 3,
2001.
The 8th IAAF World Indoor Championships will be held at the Atlantic
Pavilion, in the Nations Park, in Lisbon. Lisbon will host one of the
most important sporting events ever held in Portugual with 291 male and
248 female athletes, representing 105 countries, will be competing at
these World Championships. Previous World Indoor Championships were
held at Indianapolis ('87), Budapest ('89), Seville ('91), Toronto
('93),
Barcelona ('95), Paris ('97), and Maebashi ('99).
"A World Championship Mile is a good bonus for Collette, since it will
be a new experience for her to run against international competitors on
the track," said Coach Chris Buhler. Buhler added, "We just want to see
her go after it with an Invaders mentality to achieve her best and get
after the field really hard. The World Cross Country Championship has
been her focal point since last spring and especially during fall and
winter training. It's another great step forward as she represents the
United States in two World Championships this month."
On March 24th, Liss will be in Belgium competing at the World Cross
Country Championships as part of the U.S. contingent.
