INVADERS' PHIL MCMULLEN COMPETES TODAY AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
August 6, 2001
(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders' Decathlete Phil McMullen
competes today at the World Championships in Edmonton, Canada.
McMullen will start the first day of the decathlon with five
events: 100, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400.
"McMullen's strength in the decathlon falls on the second day's
events. Relatively speaking, the 100 is his weakest event
so it is always nerve-racking fun to watch him climb up the
standings as he goes from event to event over the course of
the decathlon's two days and ten events", said Invaders Director,
Greg Harger. Added Harger, "In his first outing at a World
Championship, McMullen can create an opportunity for himself
to finish in the top 10 with an aggressive first day effort."
McMullen was runner-up at the USA National Outdoor Championships
in June with a personal best 8220 points. Last year McMullen
finished fourth at the Olympic Trials.
