September 1, 2001
(INDIANAPOLIS) Indiana Invaders' Carri Long placed 11th in
the high jump at the World University Games in Beijing, China
on Friday August 31, 2001. Long traveled to China as part of
the USA National Team and is her first international competition.
In the women's high jump, both of Team USA's women's high
jumpers competed. Erin Aldrich finshed fourth with a
clearance of 1.88 meters while Carri Long's1.80 left her in
11th. Vita Palamar of Ukraine won the gold medal at 1.96.
"Well, a bad jump day today. My 1.80 was great and then my
technique went down the drain. This is disappointing, but it
fires me up for training again after a nice little break", said
Carri.
"Carri has had a very long competitive year and gained tremendous
experience and confidence putting herself in a position
to become a major factor in the coming years", said Club Director,
Greg Harger.
Long placed fourth at 2001 USA World Trials, fourth at USA
Indoor Nationals, was a participant at the 2000 Olympic Trials,
Runner-up at 2000 NCAA Indoor Championships and sixth at the
2000 Outdoor NCAA Championships. Long took top honors for
Purdue University as the Indoor and Outdoor Big Ten Champion in
2000 and was a four time All-American. In 1994 and 1995, Long
won the Indiana High School State High Jump.
