October 7, 2001
(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders dominated the Genesee Valley
Harriers' Cross Country Invitational winning the women's 5,000
race with 17 points at Black Creek Park in Rochester, NY. The
Invaders' offensive was led by Collette Liss setting a new course
record in winning the women's 5,000 (17:22).
The Invaders' women placed four in the top 10 last year and improved
this year by placing six in the top 10. Priscilla Hein finished
2nd, Kelly French took 3rd, Suzie Motl took 5th, Judy Porter placed
6th, Keisha Banks rounded out the top ten in 7th, and Leah Nilsson
took 14th.
On the men's side, Rick Sluder's record setting win in the 8,000
(24:38) improved on his 2000 place finish of 10th. Teammate Phil
Hudnall took 7th and Todd Moroney placed 9th.
Coach Chris Buhler said, "Our season goal set at the beginning of
the year was to dominate the women's side at Club Nationals. We look
to dominate every race and that was our goal today. Achieving that
goal leading up to Club Nationals is very important to us." Buhler
added, "We'll have a complete men's team at Club Nationals as we'll
add additional athletes to the roster. We'll also have Gareth Wilford
ready to compete by Nationals." Wilford placed second last year in
this New York Invitational hosted by the Genesee Valley Harriers.
