PRISCILLA HEIN SEVENTH AT IAAF CHALLENGE IN BELFAST, IRELAND
January 19, 2002
(INDIANAPOLIS) Priscilla Hein raced a formidable international field
in the IAAF Challenge, a nationally televised (Ireland) cross country
race, in Belfast, Ireland on January 19, 2002. Hein finished seventh
in a field that included eventual race winner Kenyan Esther Kiplagat
and runner-up American Colleen De Reuck along with a field of top
international cross country runners.
Ireland`s Anne Keenan Buckley and Rosemary Ryan who Hein had split
at the Rás na hÉireann International finished 3rd & 4th respectively.
Coach Greg Harger offered, "Facing the severe intestinal cramping
as Hein did the day before and the day of this race, she really was
not in a position to even race. Given her fitness level, this was
certainly frustrating to be in a race and not be able to give a full
effort against such a solid field of competitors. She handled herself
very well on this little cross country tour and the lessons learned
will prove valuable in the very near future."
Hein will compete at the USA World Trials in Vancouver,
Washington on February 9th, 2002.
