INVADERS' HEIN POSTS 3,000 BEST AT PREFONTAINE CLASSIC

(INDIANAPOLIS) Invaders' Priscilla Hein, in setting a personal best
time of 9:17.61 in the 3,000, finished 11th at the NIKE Prefontaine
Classic in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday, May 26. Olympian Marla Runyon,
in successfully defending her 3,000 title, edged out Sonia O'Sullivan,
of Ireland, 8:39.36 to 8:39.88.
Hein, competing in her first ever Grand Prix I track meet, turned
in a 12 second improvement on her previous best from the recent
indoor season. Hein's performance at the Pre Classic bumps her into
the top 15 on the US list for the year.
Invaders' Team Director Greg Harger said, "This weekend's race
was another tremendous experience for Hein what with the experienced
athletes from Ireland, Ethiopia, Canada, Great Britian, and Poland
in the race." Harger added, "Hein is putting the pieces together for
racing on the track at 3,000 and 5,000 meters. It has been no surprise
for her that this environment is different from the 800 and 1500
with which she is most comfortable from her recent past. After a
race on the roads next weekend she'll return to familiar territory in
the 1500 for US Nationals before returning to a couple more likely
opportunities at longer distances. She has ventured into these longer
races with a great attitude about the experience setting her up for
future championship opportunities. Big dividends will be realized
in the near future."
Hein will next compete at the USA 5K National Road Championship
as part of the Freihofer's Run for Women in Albany, New York on
June 1, 2002.
OTHER INVADERS IN ACTION OVER THE WEEKEND:
Hein's teammate Shannon Gallagher, performed well in Jonesboro,
Arkansas at a pole vault only event and cleared a season's best
4.04 to take first place.
UP NEXT FOR THE INVADERS:
Gallagher will next compete June 1st, along with teammate Linise
Gordon competing in the 400H at the USATF Georgia Championship
hosted by Quicksilver Track Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
The rest of the Invaders roster is scheduled to compete at the
Midwest Distance Solution, presented by Hansons Running Shops
and hosted by Hillsdale College on June 6th and at the Indiana
Association of USATF Championships at Terre Haute, Indiana on
June 9th.
