INVADERS' CARRI LONG FOURTH AT OUTDOOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSIPS
June 22, 2002
(INDIANAPOLIS) Invaders' Carri Long jumped 1.85 meters in the high jump
to finish fourth at the 2002 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships
on the campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. The high jump
was won by Olympian Tisha Waller, of NIKE, with a jump of 1.96 meters.
Long, ranked sixth, going into Friday's competition also finished
fourth last year before going on to Beijing, China where she finished
11th at the World University Games. Long finished sixth at Indoor
Nationals earlier this year.
Team Director Greg Harger said, "Long has clearly established
herself in the top 5 in the US by her championship performances.
This opportunity was a little frustrating for her, because she knows
she is ready to compete in the top 3. However, results like these are
good in that it sets her drive and motivation to compete at a higher
level." Harger added, "She's ready physically and mentally to jump at
the next heights and she has a great support team headed by Coach Lisa
Olson that will guide her through the process over the next couple of
seasons."
