Metzinger & Gallagher Linise Gordon

(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders' saw action in the pole vault and 100 hurdles on day three of the four day 2003 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on the campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA.

Pole vaulter veteran Shannon Gallagher finished 14th in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.00 meters. Ebbie Metzinger, competing in her second outdoor championship, did not clear the opening height.

Linise Gordon, a hurdler turned heptathlete returning to the hurdles, saw action in the 100 hurdles after finishing 14th in the heptathlon after two days of competition. Gordon did not advance from the opening round.

After three days of competition, the Invaders have placed two in the top 10 (DeDee Nathan - heptathlon 4th; Hope Sanders - 800 9th) and three additional athletes in the top 15 (Shannon Gallagher - pole vault 14th; Donnie Fellows - 10,000 14th; Linise Gordon - heptathlon 14th).

Team Director Greg Harger said, "Championship settings can be a humbling experience in the technical events such as the vault and hurdles. The experiences gained this week are motivators to improve and to respond to the challenge of competition." Harger added, "Though the performances overall are not indicative of the level of talent and fitness I'm satisfied with the overall competiveness and professionalism of most everyone thus far."

On the fourth and final day of the USA Outdoor Championships, Invaders' Carri Long will compete in the high jump and Greg Yeldell in triple jump. Both Long and Yeldell finished fourth in 2002 at the USA Outdoor respectively.

The 2003 Outdoor Championships, as the grand finale of USA Track & Field's Outdoor Golden Spike Tour, will be broadcast June 21 on NBC from 4-6 p.m. ET and June 22 on ESPN2 from 4-5:30 p.m. ET.
