INVADERS OLYMPIC TRIALS QUALIFYING MARKS AT MAINE

(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders posted fast times in the 800 at
the New Balance Maine Distance Festival on July 5th, 2003 with Jacob
Koczman and Hope Sanders both hitting qualifying standards for the
2004 US Olympic Trials with times of 1:48.35 and 2:03.48, respectively.
Koczman, a two-time NAIA Champion, improved upon his career best
of 1:49.07 set last weekend at the Boston High Performace meet.
Koczman was narrowly edged by NIKE Farm Team's Jeff DeLong's time
of 1:48.33 to 1:48.35 to take second in the second section of the
elite 800. Koczman's performance vaults him into the ranks of the
U.S. Top 30.
Sanders, a USATF veteran, finished third behind Chantee Earl (2:01.49)
of the NIKE Farm Team and Mishael Bertrand (2:03.44). Sanders lowered
her career best of 2:04.32 and moved to 11th in the US list with her
performance, improving on her prior 18th position on the US list from
her 2:04.83 set at the USATF Outdoor Championships.
Also competing for the Invaders were teammates Eddie Nehus and
Daniel Walden both of whom lowered their 2003 season bests with times
of 1:50.90 and 1:51.50, respectively.
On Wednesday, the squad competed at the Boston High Performance
meet as meet two of the Invaders' three meet pass through New England.
Team Director Greg Harger said, "Today was an outstanding display of
competiveness. Everyone fought hard and were rewarded with either
lifetime or season bests. This eight day three meet series in
New England was a great opportunity for each of these athletes.
We were honored to be able to compete in front of such appreciative
audiences in Brunswick, Maine. The meet directors, officials, and
volunteers did an excellent job." Harger added, "We'll next hit
the track on July 19th for the USATF Club Championships with the
intent of capturing the top positions in a number of individual
