INVADERS FINISH THREE IN TOP 10, ON DAY FOUR AT OLYMPIC TRIALS
July 13, 2004
(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders placed three in the top 10 on
day four of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Track & Field Trials with
Zack Riley, Carri Long, and Jacob Koczman in their respective events;
Hammer Throw, High Jump, and 800 meters.
Riley, in his first Olympic Trials appearance, threw 68.15 meters
to take 10th in the hammer throw. Riley is a graduate of Ball State
University and Columbus North High School (IN).
Long, in her second Olympic Trials appearance, cleared 1.79 meters,
to tie for 10th in the high jump. Long is a graduate of Purdue
University and Northview H.S. (IN).
Koczman, after navigating his way through the qualifying rounds,
advanced into the finals of 800 and finished eighth with a career
best of 1:47.06. Koczman is a two-time NAIA champion from
Northwestern College (IA).
Francesca Green, in her full first season back to competition after
three years of injury and time off, was 18th in the Olympic Trials
long jump at 6.17 meters. Green is a graduate of Washington State
University and Kamiaicin High School (WA).
Team Director Greg Harger said, "Koczman set a career best in his
third race in four days on top of his previous best two weeks ago.
Koczman's done a great job of making opportunities for himself
and being competitive. Carri Long's performance was a disappointment
to her to just finish 10th. Riley is a first timer and didn't throw
as far as he wanted but he was very competitive." Harger added,
"Halfway into this year's Olympic Trials, as a team we've already
surpassed our 2000 results with four in the top 10 versus three
in the top 10 in 2000."
