January 31, 2005
(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Invaders Hope Sanders posted a USA Indoor
National Qualifying mark in the 800 meters with her winning time of
2:06.58 at the Rod McCravy Memorial T&F Meet, hosted by the University
of Kentucky, on January 29, 2005.
Sanders, a 2004 US Olympic Trials competitor, was followed by teammate
and runner-up Natasha Lothery with a time of 2:10.75. Ricardo Bell took
second in the men's 800 (1:52.59) while Jamey Sperle was fifth in the
400 (48.38) and sixth in the 60 (6.98). Hunter Spencer, a three time
All-American from the University of Kentucky, was seventh in the 3000
(8:22.05).
In Bloomington at the Hoosier Relays hosted by Indiana University,
Brandon Hon improved his USA Indoor National qualifying mark in the 60
meter hurdles with a three round series that included his three fastest
times of the season as he won the event.
Also posting a win at the Hoosier Relays was Adrian Swanson with his
1:18.16 effort in the 600 meters. Alica Miller and Stephanie Dueringer
turned in second place performances in the 400 (55.84) and 5,000
(17:18.01) meter races respectively.
At the Cougar Invitational, hosted by Washington State University, Ebbie
Metzinger improved her USA Indoor National qualifying mark with a
winning jump of 4.20 meters.
Team Director Greg Harger said, "Sanders showed her early season fitness
with this best ever season opening mark at 800 meters while Metzinger's
jumping from a short approach is very encouraging for both of them as
they look to Indoor Nationals." Harger added, "Overall this was a good
weekend outing for many as we get set to gear up to go after USA
qualifying standards for several more athletes in the next couple of weeks."
