INVADERS HON WINS AT RALEIGH RELAYS; NEHUS PR's AT STANFORD
March 27, 2005
(INDIANAPOLIS) Indiana Invaders' Brandon Hon had a strong season opener
on the east coast with a win in the 110 hurdles and a runner-up finish
in the 400 hurdles at the 2005 Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina
State University. Simultaneously on the west coast, Erin Nehus dropped
20 seconds in her PR over 5,000 meters in the Stanford Invitational.
Hon opened the season with a USATF "A" Standard qualifying performance
in the qualifying round of 110 hurdles with a time of 13.80. His
winning time in the finals was 13.92. Hon also took second in the 400
hurdles (51.10).
Hon, a 2004 US Olympic Trials qualifier, is now a four-time USATF
National Championship qualifier since completing his collegiate career
in 2002 for the University of Cincinnati.
Posting a notable performance on the opposite side of the country was
teammate Erin Nehus. Nehus was third in section #2 of the 5,000 at the
Stanford Invitational. Nehus recorded a time of 16:28.31 which was the
11th fastest time of the day and a 20 second personal improvement at the
distance over her 2004 PR.
Team Director Greg Harger said, "Hon had a career best season opener
this weekend at both the 110's and 400 hurdles. His challenging decision
to not compete at the Indoor Championships due to a minor injury was
obviously the correct decision. Hon, not surprisingly, can run a much
cleaner 400 hurdle race and has plenty of room for refinement over the
110's over the coming weeks" Harger added, "Nehus had a strong outing
and the time verifies her recent 8K time of 27 flat on the roads. Her
training has yet to include any real speed work so the prospects of her
re-writing personal bests from 1500 meters to the 10,000 are very real
for this season which is a learning season with regard to her
longer-term racing future."
