INDIANA INVADERS INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS IN IRELAND
March 8, 2006
(INDIANAPOLIS) Over the weekend Indiana Invaders' Hunter Spencer and
Stephanie Dueringer crossed the Atlantic and competed in both the 16th
annual Armagh International Road Race and the Ras na hEireann
International Cross Country race held in Termonfechin, County Louth,
Republic of Ireland.
On Thursday, March 2nd Spencer took second in the 5K road race with a
time of 14:10 against a strong international field of athletes from
Russia, England, South Africa, France, and Ireland. Spencer was less
than a second behind the winner from Russia. Teammate Stephanie
Dueringer finished in the Top 10 prize money with her eighth place
finish in the women's 3K road race.
Sunday March 5th Spencer went on to take eighth in the 6K International
Cross Country race with a time of 18:39. Dueringer was also eighth in
the women's 6K race with a time of 22:24.
Spencer and Dueringer were scoring members in both races for the USA
contingent as both races had an international scoring component. The USA
athletes were second in the men's competition to Russia, while finishing
ahead of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and South Africa. The athletes from
the USA won on the women's side finishing ahead of the teams from
Scotland and Ireland.
Team Director Greg Harger said, "This opportunity for our athletes to
compete in Ireland was an invaluable experience." Coach Harger added,
"Spencer has run very well over the last three weeks as he finished 20th
at the USA World Cross Country Trials, fifth at Indoor Nationals in the
1500 and then these two competitive finishes in Ireland. This sets the
stage for him to advance to the next level in the pending outdoor
season. The event organizers did a great job and it's an honor for our
athletes to compete in front of such as spirited and welcoming
community. We look forward to growing this relationship and opportunity
to further develop our athletes with international experiences."
