INDIANA INVADERS EXPAND WOMENS DISTANCE ROSTER
May 3, 2007
(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders have added steeplechase athlete
Stefanie Calhoun to the team's distance roster. Calhoun, a 2005
graduate of Texas Tech University, has a career best of 10:20 in the
3000 steeplechase.
Calhoun, NCAA steeple qualifier in 2005, holds the Texas Tech school
record in the steeple. Calhoun finished fourth at the Big 12
Championships in 2005.
Team Director Greg Harger said, "Calhoun has the potential to develop
into a strong steeple athlete as she has undeveloped 1500 meter speed.
We're going to work with her through the next couple of training cycles
to prepare her to compete at the next level in the steeple." Harger
added, "Calhoun is a good addition to the team. I expect she will
challenge to be a scoring member of the cross country team this fall."
Calhoun joins a team that had 16 athletes qualify for both the 2000 and
the 2004 US Olympic Trials. Currently, seven Invaders athletes have
posted Olympic Trials qualifying marks for the 2008 US Olympic Trials.
Since 1999 the Invaders have had one IAAF World Indoor Champion, one
IAAF World Indoor Bronze Medalist, eight USA National Champions, one USA
Olympic Team Member, nine USA National Team Members and 132 USA National
Championship Qualifiers.
The Indiana Invaders, a not-for-profit organization founded in 1998,
presents an innovative approach to track & field by providing a
resident-based, athlete-centered support system unique to the sport in
the United States.
