INDIANA INVADERS ADD DISTANCE RUNNER RUTH CHEGE
December 11, 2003
(INDIANAPOLIS) The Indiana Invaders have added Ruth Chege, a
graduate of the University of Richmond (VA) and Governor Mifflin HS
(Mohnton, PA), to the team's roster. Chege has a career best of
4:20.12 for 1500 meters and 16:27.71 for 5,000 meters.
Chege was Seton Hall's Freshman Female Athlete of the Year, then as
a sophomore, she was the 2000 East Coast Athletic Conference Champion
in cross country before transferring to the University of Richmond.
Chege finished her Richmond career with school records for 3,000,
5,000, 10,000 meters along with contributing a leg on the school
record 4X400 meter relay. Her senior year, Chege earned the
Atlantic 10 Conference "Athlete of the Year" honors.
In high school, Chege competed at the Pennsylvania High School State
Championships in the 800, 1600, 4x800, and 4x1600m relays and was a
varsity athlete in three sports: cross country, track,
and field hockey.
Team Director Greg Harger said, "Chege's talents have yet to be
clarified with respect to her best event. The range of competitive
efforts she displayed her final year at Richmond hint at an exciting
post-collegiate career regardless of her yet-to-be-determined best
event. Her addition to the roster will add welcomed talent, spirit
and enthusiasm to the team's training environment and we're pleased
to have her."
